The SJRYC River Rats Swim Team offers a fun-filled season of competitive swimming as well as daily stroke instruction for swimmers ages 4-18. Our experienced Head Coach Wes Beemer manages practice sessions each weekday morning (swim meets on Wednesday mornings) during the season, early June through late July. Swimmers practice with their age group/ability level, from young beginners to very competitive, at one of the practices from 8:00 to 11:30am.
Advanced Swimmers: 8:00 – 10:00 am
Intermediate Swimmers: 9:30 – 11:00 am
Beginner Swimmers: 10:00 – 10:45 am
Pre-Swim team: 11:00 – 11:30 am Two Days a Week TBD
SJRYC is a member of the MAPSC swim conference, a group of teams from private clubs in the Michiana area. We have a weekly dual meet, home or away, every Wednesday morning early June through mid- July, and then as a culminating event at the end of the season, a Conference Championship meet in late July. It truly is a wonderful summertime experience for the kids as well as adults – a great way to make new friends! Pre-Swim Team: Lessons for our beginner group of swimmers will swim from 11:00-11:30 am two practice days a week. Children are placed in groups of no more than six swimmers and receive individualized instruction based on their developmental swim level.
Once enrollment numbers are established, swimmers will be placed in an appropriate group that will practice from either 11:00-11:30 Monday/Friday or 11:00-11:30 Tuesday/Thursday
Swim Meets: Sign-ups will be via email from Coach Wes. Swimmers must swim in at least 2 conference swim meets to be able to swim at conference. Our swim meets are fun! Swimmers in intermediate and advanced groups are encouraged to participate in meets whenever possible.
